Meet the founder

Brian Beals is stillwriting his story.

After 35 years of wrongful incarceration, Brian was exonerated in 2023. His next chapter is his to write, and that belief sits at the heart of NextAct.

Brian Beals

01 / The story

The story did not end at freedom.

In December 2023, Brian Beals walked out of an Illinois prison after a court overturned his conviction and dismissed the charges against him. He had spent 35 years incarcerated for a crime he did not commit. His exoneration followed the work of the Illinois Innocence Project, attorney Laura Nirider, and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office Conviction Review Unit.[1]

That history matters. So does the life Brian is building now. His story cannot be reduced to the years taken from him, and it is not finished by the day he came home.

02 / The meaning

What a next act means.

NextAct’s line, “Your best act is your next act,” is an invitation to look forward with agency. In Brian’s story, it is not a claim that every new chapter is easy. It is a belief that a person can keep making choices, seeking connection, and deciding what matters next.

Brian says it most clearly himself: his story is still being written. The brand’s optimism should feel earned by that openness, rather than by turning his experience into a simple before-and-after narrative.

03 / The intent

Why NextAct.

NextAct was created around a simple idea: the next chapter of life deserves attention and care. Brian’s experience gives that idea personal weight. He wants the brand to speak to people who are ready to take a thoughtful next step, at their own pace.

NextAct helps people explore telehealth care options with licensed providers. Treatment decisions belong to those providers and depend on individual clinical evaluation. The founder’s story is the reason for the brand’s perspective; it is not medical evidence or a promise about treatment.

04 / A note from Brian

I know what it means to have your future interrupted. I also know that a person is more than what happened to them. For me, the next act is about showing up, staying curious, and making room for what is still possible. I hope NextAct gives people a place to begin their own next step.
